SAN PABLO — A man is in custody for allegedly firing gunshots in the vicinity of a school.
Erick W. Rodriguez, 34, of San Pablo, is being held at the West County Detention Facility in
Richmond and is ineligible for release on bond.

Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reported gunfire on October 24. The shots
were fired on Dundee Road in an unincorporated area of San Pablo near the Caliber
Beta Academy on Dolan Way.

The shots were fired off-campus in the Tara Hills neighborhood. As a precaution the school nearby
was placed under a lockdown. School grounds were thoroughly searched. Investigators later
determined the shooting is not linked to the school in any way. No injuries were reported.

An investigation of the gunfire resulted in the issuance of a Ramey Warrant for the arrest of Rodriguez.
He was placed under arrest in Richmond of the morning of October 26, without further incident.
Rodriguez was booked for negligent discharge of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, and child
endangerment. At the time of his arrest, Rodriguez was on probation for a prior DUI conviction in
August.

The shooting case is being reviewed by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. Charges
against Rodriguez are pending. Anyone with information about this shooting incident can contact the
sheriff’s office at 925-313-2600.
