FOLSOM  CA —

A recent law enforcement operation required the cooperation of a multitude of law enforcement agencies and resulted in 15 drug related arrests.

Operation “Folsom Blues” targeted street-level drug dealers responsible for distributing fentanyl and other dangerous drugs by utilizing online marketplaces and social media applications. Officers and deputies used undercover accounts to arrange narcotic transactions, where the dealers were then taken into custody.

On Nov. 1, and Nov. 2, the Folsom Police Department led a multi-agency operation in conjunction with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, Citrus Heights Police Department, Sacramento County Probation, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, Placer County Sheriff’s Office, Placer County Probation, Roseville Police Department, Placer County District Attorney’s Office, the California Highway Patrol, and Homeland Security Investigations.

All arrestees received the Watson advisement, which formally warned these narcotics dealers of the dangers of fentanyl, and informed them that they could be charged with murder if they sold drugs laced with fentanyl to someone, and that person died as a result.

This operation resulted in 15 arrests, and seizures including over $15,000 in cash, hundreds of pills, and other illicit drugs like cocaine and methamphetamines. Detectives also recovered nearly 350 grams of fentanyl, enough to kill the entire population of Folsom two times over.

Per the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), it takes only a few granules of fentanyl, weighing only two or three milligrams, to have lethal consequences for an average person. A 2023 DEA laboratory study found that 7 out of every 10 pills confiscated contained a deadly amount of fentanyl. The Centers for Disease (CDC) estimated that in 2023, more than 112,000 Americans lost their lives as a result of drug poisoning.
