San Mateo police recently arrested an individual who allegedly led them on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle. The passenger in the vehicle was also arrested.
According to a press release by the San Mateo Police Department, the department was alerted by a Flock camera system on the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 5, to a stolen vehicle entering San Mateo. The vehicle, a silver Honda Accord, was reported to have entered the Los Prados neighborhood. Officers were dispatched to the area to locate the vehicle.
The vehicle was sighted heading north on South Norfolk Street toward Hillsdale Boulevard, leaving the Los Prados neighborhood. Officers observed that the vehicle displayed a different rear license plate from when it was originally reported stolen.
Police positioned themselves for a traffic stop, but as they approached, the driver of the Honda accelerated and merged onto Highway 101. Spike strips were deployed, puncturing the vehicle’s front tires.
The vehicle traveled onto northbound Highway 101 before exiting and eventually coming to a stop near Kehoe Avenue and Norton Street. Officers detained two suspects from the vehicle without incident.
Officers searched the vehicle and reportedly discovered multiple stolen license plates, drugs, and drug paraphernalia. Police also determined that the new license plate attached to the vehicle had been stolen from another car parked in the Los Prados neighborhood.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Steven Ramey, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and possession of a controlled substance.
The passenger, Gustavo Meza, was arrested on suspicion of the possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and additional offenses.
Both individuals were transported and booked into San Mateo County jail, police said.
The investigation is ongoing as police work to identify the owners of potentially stolen items found within the vehicle.
