Suspect Faces 17 Felony Charges for Shootings near UC Berkeley Campus

BERKELEY — A suspect faces 17 felony charges in connection with shootings near the
Berkeley campus of the University of California. Berkeley police recently arrested Jeffrey D.
Hue, 45, at his residence in San Francisco.
Several instances of gunfire erupted shortly after midnight on October 26. The shootings
occurred south of the campus and in front of witnesses. While the shootings were happening
the public was urged to avoid certain areas of Bancroft, Fulton, Telegraph and University
avenues, and Haste Street. Fortunately, no one was reported injured.
After speaking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance video detectives were able to identify a suspect. Investigators also obtained
evidence from automated license plate readers and ShotSpotter microphones pinpointing
gunfire locations.
Berkeley police executed warrants and arrested Hue on the morning of November 7. The
suspect was found in possession of a small arsenal of firearms. “Detectives seized several
handguns, assault rifles, and ammunition.”
Felony charges filed on November 8 against Hue include the following –
*Assault with a firearm on a person
*Discharge of a firearm with gross negligence
*Shooting at an inhabited dwelling
*Shooting at an unoccupied vehicle
Hue faces additional charges related to firearms, possession of armor-piercing ammunition
and possession of a silencer. Moreover, the investigation of him remains ongoing. Berkeley
police received assistance from UC Berkeley police, East Bay Regional Park District Police,
and San Francisco police.
