COLUSA, CA  —  The owner of a Colusa County insurance office has reportedly been arrested for alleged embezzlement and grand theft.

According to a press release by the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received a report in mid-October alleging fraudulent activities involving the Robert E. Lee Insurance Agency, owned by Dustin Wilbur Hamilton.

A local business owner reported being defrauded through payments made for insurance coverage, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities determined that the victim had been paying Hamilton for insurance since August 2021. Over three years, the victim received invoices and submitted quarterly payments, believing they were covered. Investigators allege that Hamilton provided fraudulent insurance certificates annually and failed to secure any legitimate coverage for the business.

Hamilton was arrested on suspicion of embezzlement and grand theft.
