FORESTVILLE, CA  —  Sonoma County authorities have arrested a man for allegedly breaking into a home and fatally attacking one of the residents with a baseball bat.

According to a press release by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 16, to a disturbance on the 7800 block of River Road. The reporting party told deputies that a man, later identified as Adrian Yanez, was allegedly causing a disturbance.

The caller reportedly stated that Yanez had previously made them uncomfortable while on the property.

Deputies detained Yanez and assessed his condition, determining he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, did not meet the criteria for a mental health evaluation hold, and had not committed a crime.

While his behavior was described as strange, it was not violent and did not constitute probable cause to detain him, according to authorities.

After more than an hour, deputies released Yanez, informing him he was not allowed to return to the property and that he would be arrested if he did so.

That afternoon, dispatchers received a call from a residence on the 5000 block of Carroll Road in Valley Ford. The caller reported an unknown man yelling and attempting to break into the home with a baseball bat.

Deputies responded to the residence while receiving updates from the caller. The suspect, identified as Adrian Yanez, 44, of Fairfield, allegedly broke into the home and killed one resident with the baseball bat.

A second resident remained hidden and was not attacked, authorities said.

Deputies located and arrested Yanez, and he remains in custody without bail. Investigators recovered the baseball bat.
