BRENTWOOD — Three juveniles have been arrested in connection with an assault and robbery at a
supermarket earlier this month. Brentwood police know the identity of a fourth adult suspect still being
sought for arrest.

The robbery, using a deadly weapon, occurred November 2 at Safeway on Balfour Road. The victim’s
firearm and cell phone were stolen. Investigators learned that the victim and the four suspects
engaged in road rage dispute prior to this robbery.
“Officers arrived on the scene quickly and were able to apprehend two of the juvenile suspects,” officials said.

They were transported and booked at John A. Davis Juvenile
Hall in Martinez. The third juvenile suspect was arrested recently and booked at county juvenile hall.
Police have not released the name of the 18-year-old adult suspect who remains at large. The adult
and three juvenile suspects each face charges for assault with a deadly weapon and robbery.
Arrests of Contra Costa County juveniles are lower than the California average, according to data from
the Population Reference Bureau. The arrest rate for juveniles in Contra Costa County is 2.6 per
1,000, compared to 2.7 for California.

The majority of juveniles arrested are males implicated in violent crimes. The most common juvenile
arrests are for assaults, robbery, rape and homicide. Juvenile arrests for property crimes occur at
roughly half the rate compared to arrests for violent offenses. Juveniles who get arrested are at higher
risk of subsequent arrests as adults.
