SAN RAFAEL — Detectives arrested a man who allegedly pretends he is a real estate agent
and commits burglaries at open houses all over California. Joshua Lamont, 50, of San Diego,
remains in custody at Marin County Jail.
Marin County Sheriff’s Office detectives apprehended Lamont on November 20. He was taken
into custody at the Park Inn by Radisson, 2389 North Main Street in Walnut Creek. Detectives
searched his room and recovered evidence, including receipts from pawn shops throughout
the San Francisco Bay area.
Homes in Marin County were burglarized in Kent Woodlands in November and Sleepy Hollow
in October. When the suspect arrived at open houses, he pretended to be working with
another real estate agent interested in the property.
Lamont allegedly stole jewelry estimated to be worth $10,000, along with checks from the
home in Kent Woodlands. While taking a self-guided tour of a home in Sleepy Hollow, he
allegedly stole jewelry worth approximately $15,000.
In a prepared statement the sheriff’s office said. “Joshua Lamont has a history of committing
similar offenses up and down California. Detectives are continuing to try and locate items
stolen by Lamont.”
Lamont was booked on open charges for burglary, possession of stolen property, and
possession of a controlled substance. He also faces charges for forgery and passing a
fictitious check. He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bond for the Marin burglaries.
He is also being held for an outstanding warrant in lieu of $150,000 bond for similar crimes in
another county. Lamont’s three prior felony convictions make him eligible for state prison if he
is convicted again.
