MCKINLEYVILLE, CA  —  A 59 year old McKinleyville man was arrested for allegedly throwing a knife at a gas station clerk.

According to a press release by the county sheriff’s office, deputies responded on the morning of Nov. 22 to the Chevron station on Central Avenue in McKinleyville, where it had been reported that a man had been causing a disturbance and allegedly threatened the clerk with a knife.

Deputies arrived on scene and located the individual, whom the sheriff’s office identified as Eric Robert Thompson.

The clerk at the gas station reportedly told deputies that Thompson had already been asked to leave and not return due to erratic behavior. Thompson later returned and, when told to leave again, allegedly threatened to kill the clerk and threw a knife at them. The clerk had to dodge the knife to avoid being struck with it, authorities said.

Deputies reviewed surveillance footage from the store, which corroborated the clerk’s account. Deputies then arrested Thompson without incident.

Thompson was later booked at the Humboldt Count Correctional Facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and threatening a crime with intent to terrorize.
