Salinas Man Arrested with Warrants, Unregistered Firearm, and Large Quantity of Marijuana

On November 16, 2024, at approximately 11:26 p.m., Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 31-year-old Alfonso Gutierrez Martinez of Salinas after an incident along the 100 block of Jetty Road. Deputies initially approached Martinez’s vehicle, which was parked in violation of a county ordinance prohibiting parking after sunset. Upon inspection, deputies observed open alcohol containers and detected a strong odor of marijuana.

During the encounter, deputies identified Martinez and discovered he had three outstanding arrest warrants. He was placed in handcuffs but attempted to flee on foot. Martinez was quickly apprehended a short distance from the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered over five pounds of marijuana in multiple bags and a loaded firearm, which was determined to be unregistered. Martinez was transported to the Monterey County Jail and booked on charges including resisting or delaying a peace officer, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of more than one ounce of marijuana, and possession of marijuana for sales. His bail was set at $35,000. Deputies reported no injuries during the incident.
