STOCKTON — San Joaquin County deputies reportedly discovered an explosive device after pulling over a stolen vehicle. Three people were also arrested.
According to a press release by the San Joaquin County sheriff’s office, deputies stopped a vehicle just after midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 27, near Church and Aurora Streets in Stockton.
The vehicle had been reported stolen after a carjacking two days earlier on Monday, Nov. 25.
After deputies stopped the vehicle, all occupants were taken into custody without incident, the sheriff’s office said.
As deputies searched the vehicle, they reportedly discovered what appeared to be a homemade explosive device. The office’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called to the scene and safely removed the device.
The team also conducted a thorough search of the rest of the vehicle and did not find any other devices.
The driver of the vehicle, whose name has not been released, was arrested on suspicion of the possession of a stolen vehicle, receiving stolen property, and possession of an explosive device.
The two passengers were later released, the sheriff’s office said.
