Redding Woman Arrested for Alleged DUI, Manslaughter in Connection with Fatal Thanksgiving Day Collision
Redding police have reportedly arrested woman for allegedly driving under the influence in connection with a fatal collision on Thanksgiving.
According to the Redding Police Department, officers responded on the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 28, to a collision reported on Lake Boulevard near Clay Street. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive pedestrian on the side of the road.
The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The individual’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.
Investigators determined that the pedestrian had been walking on the shoulder of Lake Boulevard, pushing a shopping cart, when they were struck by a vehicle traveling westbound.
The driver did not stop at the scene and continued to her home, where officers later contacted her, police said.
The driver, whom police identified as Jessica Kathryn Remedios, 44, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence causing great bodily injury or death, and felony hit-and-run.
She was booked at the Shasta County jail.
