CHP Arrests 2 Brothers for Oakland Freeway Shooting

OAKLAND — California Highway Patrol arrested two brothers implicated in a freeway
shooting. This particular shooting occurred during the evening rush hour on Interstate 580,
near Park Boulevard in Oakland.

CHP officers responded November 8 at 5:08 p.m. after the gunfire erupted on westbound I-
580. The victim reported their vehicle was first rear-ended on an Oakland city street. Minutes
later the victim was shot at after being followed onto I-580. Fortunately, no one was reported
injured.

Detectives from the CHP Golden Gate Division investigated the shooting incident.
Investigators reviewed video recorded by surveillance cameras to identity the suspects. The
brothers were spotted this month in Oakland, driving on Claremont Avenue, near Grizzly Peak
Boulevard.

CHP detectives apprehended Kevin Martinez-Hernandez, 25, and Ruben Martinez-
Hernandez, 22, both Oakland residents. Detectives arrested the brothers on December 2 at
6:20 a.m. The detectives were assisted by CHP-Oakland officers and a K-9 unit. An
unregistered loaded firearm was recovered from the suspects.

Both brothers were booked at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail. However, they are no longer
listed in the online inmate rooster.

Kevin Martinez-Hernandez was booked for the following charges –
*Attempted murder
*Assault with a firearm
*Shooting at an inhabited vehicle
*Carrying a loaded firearm
*Conspiracy to commit a crime
*Accessory after the fact

Ruben Martinez-Hernandez was booked for –
*Attempted murder

*Assault with a firearm
*Carrying a loaded firearm
*Carrying a concealed firearm
*Shooting at an inhabited vehicle
*Driver permitting another person to discharge a firearm from a vehicle
*Accessory after the fact
