Morgan Hill police have arrested one suspect and are searching for another in connection with an auto burglary and high-speed pursuit earlier this month.
According to a press release by the Morgan Hill Police Department, officers responded shortly before 6 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, to the area of Depot and Third streets for a report of an auto burglary in progress. When confronted by the victim, the suspects allegedly brandished guns and then fled in separate vehicles.
About four minutes later, officers located both vehicles and attempted to pull them over. Neither obeyed, and both suspects led police on a high-speed pursuit. Officers used “stop-sticks” to puncture the tires of the vehicles, but the vehicles entered northbound Highway 101 during morning rush hour, at which point police reportedly terminated the pursuit for safety reasons.
Officers later found one of the vehicles unoccupied on Cochrane Road near Malaguerra Avenue and the second in the Mission Ranch neighborhood. Both suspects had fled on foot, police said.
Authorities from several other law enforcement agencies such as the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, and the Gilroy Police Department joined Morgan Hill police in searching for the suspects.
Several hours later, one of the suspects was reportedly arrested without incident. A “ghost gun” was allegedly found in their possession.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was booked at the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of robbery, burglary, and firearm possession. The second suspect remains at large.
