OAKLEY— A man and woman were arrested for theft of a Ford pickup truck. The suspects
abandoned the pickup and fled after being pursued by the owner’s daughter. Four days later the police
found both suspects and arrested them.
On December 13 shortly before 1 a.m., a Portsmouth Street resident heard her father’s pickup truck
being started. She watched momentarily as the pickup was being driven away, before deciding to
follow the thieves with her vehicle.
They each stopped on Birmingham Street, where the victim’s daughter verbally confronted the male
suspect. She took back her father’s pickup. The suspects soon fled, inside a different truck with
distinctive damage, which was parked nearby.
Oakley PD got a good description of their getaway truck, which was reported on December 17 for
reckless driving. A traffic stop was attempted, but the driver and passenger kept going. After reaching
Oak Grove Park, both suspects exited and fled on foot. Police found a loaded firearm they left behind
on the front seat.
A perimeter was set up, with help from an Antioch K-9 unit, and an Oakley drone overhead. The
suspects were found hiding in a backyard on Old Oak Court. Officers arrested Christian J. Avila and
Diana Martinez-Osuna, both 30-year-old residents of Concord.
Avila remains in custody at the West County Detention Facility in lieu of $565,000 bond. Avila faces
multiple charges for the vehicle theft. His other charges involve possession of a firearm by a prohibited
person, and possession of methamphetamine.
Martinez-Osuna is no longer in custody. She faces charges for vehicle theft, second-degree burglary,
and resisting/obstructing an officer.
