SONORA, Calif. — Local police have arrested two people on battery charges in connection with a fight that broke out at a downtown bar this past weekend.

According to a press release from the Sonora Police Department, officers responded in the early morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 22, to a bar on N. Washington Street. Police had received a report of a fight involving several people having broken out outside the bar.

Responding officers reportedly detained two individuals who allegedly tried to leave when the officers arrived on scene. The officers identified these two as James Gimenez, 40, and Jared Peau, 22.

Police reportedly identified Gimenez and Peau as the primary aggressors in the fight, with Peau, at one point, allegedly stomping and kicking one of the victims about the face as they lay on the ground.

Officers determined there had been two victims of assault, one of whom sustained severe injuries.
