Police: Man Allegedly Entered Home, Assaulted Resident, and Held Them Hostage
SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. — Redding police have reportedly arrested a man who allegedly entered a home he did not live in and assaulted one of the residents, whom he then held hostage.
According to a press release by the Redding Police Department, officers responded to reports of an armed individual on the 900 block of Delta Street on the morning of Thursday, Dec. 26.
Police say the suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Noah Dodson, had allegedly brandished a knife, was possibly armed with a firearm, had made statements about going to prison, and may have taken a hostage.
Redding Police SWAT, Hostage Negotiation Team, and Crisis Intervention Response Team personnel were called to the scene. Investigators reportedly confirmed Dodson had a hostage inside the home.
Negotiators were able to secure the release of the hostage, who was unharmed.
Police allege that Dodson had entered the residence, where he did not live, and threatened a female victim before assaulting a male victim, whom he then held hostage. After failed negotiations, police deployed chemical agents, prompting Dodson to surrender.
Dodson was arrested and booked into the Shasta County jail on suspicion of dependent adult abuse, false imprisonment, burglary, terrorist threats, kidnapping, and resisting a peace officer.
