San Mateo Shoplifting Suspect Arrested After Allegedly Fighting with Officers
A man accused of shoplifting from a grocery store was arrested after allegedly fighting with police officers.
According to a press release by the San Mateo Police Department, officers responded on the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 24, to a report of a theft from the Safeway on the 1600 block of S. El Camino Real.
Employees provided responding officers with a description of the suspect, who had left the store by the time they arrived.
When officers later located the suspect near the intersection of 17th and Palm avenues, the suspect allegedly grabbed a metal chain and swung it at them before taking off on foot. Officers pursued the suspect, who eventually stopped and allegedly fought with officers a second time.
The suspect reportedly became so erratic that officers decided to use a taser, neutralizing him and allowing officers to place him in handcuffs.
Police identified the suspect as Jose PirirBoch, 41, of San Mateo.
PirirBoch was medically evaluated at an area hospital, and then ultimately booked at the San Mateo County jail on suspicion of theft and resisting arrest, police said.
