MANTECA, Calif. — A San Joaquin County man accused of leading deputies on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle was hospitalized after crashing the vehicle into a pole in late December.
According to a press release by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies engaged a high-speed pursuit with a stolen vehicle on the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 22, after the driver failed to yield to an attempted traffic stop in the area of Main Street and Industrial Park Drive.
The pursuit continued to a rural area, but the suspect eventually tried to return to the city, authorities said.
Law enforcement deployed spike strips and the vehicle struck them, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and collide with a utility pole, splitting the vehicle in half.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle, but was found alert and conscious, authorities said. He was taken to an area medical center for evaluation and is reportedly expected to face several charges upon release.
