Tuolumne County Man Faces Weapon Charge in Connection with Shooting

TUOLUMNE COUNTY, Calif. — A Tuolumne County man is in custody on a weapon charge following an incident on an early Saturday morning in late December.

According to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded just before 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, to the area of Black Road and Highway 120 in Groveland, where a man had reported shooting another man whom he claimed had been beating on his camper. The caller also reported that the person he shot had run away on foot.

As deputies responded to this call, a man in his 50s reportedly turned up at the Groveland Fire Station with a gunshot wound to his torso. The man was given first aid while deputies and medical personnel responded to the station. The man spoke with deputies before ultimately being taken to a hospital in Stanislaus County for further treatment. Authorities say his condition was reported to be stable.

Meanwhile, deputies arrived at the scene of the shooting and spoke with the initial caller, whom they identified as 42-year-old Jonathan William Luczak. As the investigation progressed, authorities reportedly ended up arresting Luczak on suspicion of being a felon or addict in possession of a firearm.

The investigation into the shooting is active and ongoing, the sheriff’s office said.
