A Cotati man was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of a collision that involved injuries on Christmas Day.

According to a press release by the Cotati Police Department, officers responded to a report of an injury collision in the area of Highway 116 and the northbound Highway 101 off-ramp. As officers approached, they discovered a vehicle with front-end damage further down the road from the scene of the initial collision, along with an individual standing next to the vehicle.

This individual was discovered to have been involved in the collision and allegedly fled the scene of the accident.

At the scene of the collision, officers discovered a vehicle turned on its side with children trapped inside. The children were safely removed from the vehicle and treated for injuries at an area hospital. Police did not specify the extent of the injuries.

The individual accused of fleeing the scene was reportedly found to have a blood-alcohol level over three times the legal limit, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run.
