A stabbing near the Fillmore’s downtown Historical Museum on Main Street has resulted in the
arrest of a gang-affiliated parolee.

According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Jarrod Foote, at
approximately 9 p.m. on the night of January 6, “an adult male was confronted by three
men on the sidewalk near the museum.” During the altercation, one of the suspects stabbed the
victim, a 47-year-old resident of Fillmore, with “a sharp metal object.” The three assailants
promptly fled on foot while the injured victim managed to call 911.

Fillmore Patrol deputies arrived with all due alacrity, rendering medical attention to the victim
who identified 33-year-old Fillmore resident Ivan Hernandez as his attacker. Hernandez, a
documented gang member on active parole, became the target of an immediate manhunt.
At that point, detectives attached to the VCSD’s Major Crimes Unit and Fillmore Bureau of
Investigation arrived on the scene, uncovering evidence of the stabbing and additional items
tying Hernandez to the crime. The hunt for Hernandez then began in earnest.

Just hours later, deputies located Hernandez at a nearby residence and he was arrested “without
incident.” Hernandez was transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on a charge
of assault with a deadly weapon. He remains in custody on a no-bail hold pursuant to his prior
parole status.
