PITTSBURG — Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested one suspect implicated
in a shooting at the county fairgrounds in Antioch. At least one more suspect remains at large
involving the shooting and a cache of weapons recovered by detectives.

An investigation was launched following a shooting last year at the fairgrounds on September 16. Two
persons shot at a victim during an argument. Diego Vasquez-Gomez, 27, has been identified as one of
the shooting suspects.

Vasquez-Gomez was arrested on January 2 during a search of his Pittsburg residence. Detectives
conducting the search recovered several assault weapons and a short barrel rifle. Vasquez-Gomez is
also allegedly involved in illegal manufacturing and sales of weapons.

The sheriff’s office said in a prepared statement. “Detectives determined one of the suspects used an
illegally manufactured gun in the shooting. (Vasquez-Gomez) was apparently illegally making guns,
including assault weapons, and illegally selling them.”

Recovered weapons included “ghost guns” assembled from parts lacking serial numbers, making
them difficult for law enforcement to trace. “The weapons seized will be tested to see if they are linked
to any shootings or crimes.”

Vasquez-Gomez was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility. He faces charges involving illegal
weapons manufacturing and sales, and illegal possession of an assault weapon. In addition, he faces
charges for unlicensed transfer of a firearm, and child endangerment.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact the sheriff’s office investigation
division at 925-313-2600.
