BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. — A Butte County woman was taken into custody after allegedly being caught driving under the influence of narcotics.

According to a press release by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, a sergeant on patrol along northbound Highway 99 saw a motorist traveling at around 85 miles per hour in a 65 m.p.h. zone and weaving in and out of the lane.

The officer pulled the vehicle over in the area of Neal Dow and East First avenues and made contact with the driver, whom authorities identified as Becky Palen, 54, of Chico.

Palen, who was driving a taxi, told the sergeant she had completed a fare in Magalia and was on her way to another one, authorities said.

The sergeant reportedly noted signs of Palen being under the influence of a controlled substance, and a California Highway Patrol officer responded to the scene to conduct a field sobriety check.

Palen was ultimately arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
