ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. — A 23-year-old high school basketball coach has been arrested for the alleged sexual assault of a student, according to police.
In a press release, the Santa Ana Police Department revealed that officers had responded on the night of Friday, Jan. 10, to the 1300 block of N. Tustin Avenue after receiving a report of a student in the back seat of a car with an adult male, the latter believed to be the coach of the Santa Ana High School girls’ basketball team.
By the time officers arrived, the vehicle was gone. The reporting party was unable to provide further details, police said.
Santa Ana police detectives began an investigation and identified the victim as a 16-year-old student. The victim reportedly told detectives she was in a “dating relationship” with the coach, whom they identified as Edward Baxter, 23.

On Saturday, Jan. 11, officers located and arrested Baxter on suspicion of sexual assault.
