BRENTWOOD — Trouble found a young man who parked his car outside a grocery store.
He was caught was carrying a stolen loaded firearm. Michael W. Sherman, 18, of San
Leandro, now finds himself being held in custody in lieu of $120,000 bond. Felony charges
against him are pending.
Sherman was reportedly planning on making a quick stop at Lone Tree Plaza, a shopping mall
near California State Route 4. Sherman attracted attention to himself. He parked in a handicap spot, outside a grocery store, and he allegedly
left a firearm inside his car.
“An officer noticed a car in handicap spot without a placard in front of Trader Joe’s. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer observed
a firearm with an extended magazine inside the car,” Brentwood police said in a prepared statement.
The officer waited patiently nearby until Sherman returned to his car. The officer questioned
him and determined that the firearm in his possession was reported stolen. Sherman was
placed under arrest on January 13 at 6:06 p.m. He was transported to the Martinez Detention
Facility for booking. Sherman subsequently has been moved to the West County Detention
Facility in Richmond.
Sherman was booked on suspicion of committing the following felonies, receiving known stolen property, carrying a loaded firearm in public and carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle.
