ALTURAS, CA — “On 1/13/2025 at approximately 0755 hours the Alturas Police Department conducted a search warrant, with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol and Modoc County Probation Department, at 913 North East St. Joshua Thompson and Jorge Romero were both arrested following the service of the warrant. Several controlled substances, copious amounts of drug paraphernalia, along with an illegal short-barreled shotgun were located within the home.
Thompson was booked on one count of 11378 H&S; possession of a controlled substance for sale, 11366 H&S; keep a place to use/sell controlled substances, 273a(a) PC; felony child endangerment, 11350(a) H&S; felony possession of a narcotic controlled substance, 11377(a) H&S; possession of a controlled substance, and 11364(a) H&S; possession of drug paraphernalia. Thompson’s bail was set at $96,000. Romero was booked on 33215 PC; possession of a short-barreled shotgun, 11350(a) PC possession of a narcotic controlled substance. Romero’s bail was set at $25,000.
Yesterday, 01/15/2025 at 1630 hours, Romero and Thompson were arraigned. Several charges were added to Romero and Thompson’s original charges. Romero was additionally charged with two counts 11378 H&S; possession of a controlled substance for sale, one count of 273a(a) PC; felony child endangerment; 23920(a) PC; possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, 23900 PC; altering the serial number of a firearm, 29800(a)(1) PC; possession of a firearm by a narcotic addict, 182(a) (1) PC, conspiracy to commit a crime, with special enhancements for sales of a controlled substance within 1000 yards of a school.
Thompson also received additional charges of two counts of 11378 H&S; possession of a controlled substance for sale, two counts of 11379(a) H&S; transportation of a controlled substance, 11366.8(a) H&S; false compartment for the transportation of a controlled substance; 29800(a)(1) PC; possession of a firearm by a narcotic addict, 182(a)(1) PC, conspiracy to commit a crime, and special enhancements for sales of a controlled substance within 1000 yards of a school, possessing a large quantity of contraband, and having a vulnerable victim.
After arraignment, Romero was held with no bail. Thompson was released on Supervised Conditional Release over the Modoc County District Attorney’s strong objection for public safety concerns.”
