San Diego Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday, January 5, 2025, in the area of 300 Willie James Jones Avenue. Officers from the Southeastern Division responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 9:36 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered David Solis, a 19-year-old man from Tijuana, Mexico, suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. Officers administered first aid, and Solis was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Solis was involved in an altercation with two men who were spray-painting gang-related graffiti on a wall in the area. During the altercation, Solis was shot. One of the suspects, identified as 21-year-old Edwin Aguayo, was apprehended on January 7, 2025, at approximately 10:42 p.m., during a traffic stop near I-5 and Del Mar Heights Road. The second suspect remains at large.
