“On July 20, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the San Diego Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a wireless 911 call from a cell phone near Civic Center Drive in Vista. Subsequently, five males arrived at Palomar Hospital with four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Tragically, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries. The Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was classified as a homicide. The homicide victim has been identified as 19-year-old Antonio Junior Calderon Mendiola.
In the course of our thorough investigation, we identified Jose Ulices Luna (DOB: 03/08/2004) as the suspect. On January 14, 2025, charges were formally filed against Luna at the North County Vista Courthouse. The charges include murder, three counts of attempted murder, and allegations of using a firearm to cause great bodily injury.
