Thousand Oaks, CA —
It was late on the night of January 6 when 31-year-old Thousand Oaks resident Uriel Gamboa called the cops to confess to the murder of his girlfriend Aliya Pitts.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Francisco Jauregui, in his 911 Emergency call to Ventura County Sheriff’s Dispatch, Gamboa “indicated he had killed his girlfriend and was feeling suicidal.”
VCSD Camarillo Station promptly made contact with Gamboa outside his hotel room at the Palm Garden Hotel.
Moments later, the deputies “entered the hotel suite and discovered the body of 24-year-old Pitts of Sherman Oaks.” Gamboa reportedly had a “self-inflicted” injury. Pitts was pronounced dead at the scene, and Gamboa was transported to a local hospital for “medical evaluation and treatment.”
Investigators attached to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Unit took over the investigation. It was confirmed that Gamboa and Pitts were “in a dating relationship.”
Four days later, on January 10, as Gamboa was being discharged from the hospital, he was taken into custody and transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of first degree murder. He remains in custody with his bail set at $500,000.
