Father Arrested: Suspected of Killing his 3-month-old child

SACRAMENTO, CA   —  “On August 29, 2024, 23-year-old Andrew Gray-Blessett called 9-1-1 and told the dispatcher he was rocking his 3-month-old son to sleep, and the child stopped breathing. Fire Department Dispatchers gave CPR instructions over the phone, and Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies and Fire Department personnel responded to his residence on the 3800 block of Kings Way in Sacramento. Paramedics continued CPR all the way to the hospital, but unfortunately, the child was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

Per standard protocol for an unexplained child death, Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Child Abuse Bureau (CAB) responded to investigate. The family, including Gray-Blessett, was cooperative, and nothing initially seemed out of the ordinary or suspicious. Detectives continued their investigation that day and interviewed witnesses while Crime Scene Investigators and the Coroner’s Office forensically processed the scene.

The Coroner’s Office later performed an autopsy on the child, which revealed significant blunt head trauma and findings consistent with severe traumatic brain injury. The Coroner’s Office determined the manner of death to be Homicide. After examining a considerable amount of evidence in conjunction with numerous witness statements, Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Gray-Blessett for Murder and Assault of a Child Under Eight, Resulting in Death.

Yesterday evening, Andrew Gray-Blessett was arrested by the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and booked into the Sacramento Main Jail. He is currently ineligible for bail and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow (January 24).”
