Fort Bragg Police Investigate Video of Unknown Individuals Attacking Homeless Person with Fireworks

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. — Fort Bragg police are investigating an incident in multiple individuals recorded a video of themselves throwing lit fireworks at a homeless person.

According to a press release by the Fort Bragg Police Department, their department was notified on Saturday, Jan. 4, of a video circulating on social media that showed “unknown subjects” throwing a lit firework at a homeless person. Screaming could be heard after the firework exploded inside of a tent, police said.

Investigators were able to identify the location where the video was recorded, as well as identifying the victim and a potential suspect. Investigators also learned that the assault had occurred in July of last year, the victim had not reported it.

On Sunday, Jan. 5, investigators interviewed both the victim and suspect. The next day, officers served warrants on a social media account and a residence associated with the suspect.

The investigation is still active and ongoing.
