FRESNO, Calif. — Fresno police have reportedly arrested a man for the alleged murder of his mother.
According to a press release by the Fresno Police Department, officers responded on the afternoon of Monday, Jan. 20, to the home of 62-year-old Shirla Ramirez. Ramirez had not shown up for work after calling out the previous Friday and a welfare check was requested.
At the home, officers reportedly discovered Ramirez deceased and noted that her death appeared to be suspicious. Officers with the department’s Homicide Unit, as well as officials from the county coroner’s office, responded to the scene and confirmed that Ramirez had been the victim of a homicie.
As the investigation began, detectives learned that Shirla, who lived alone, had called out of work the previous Friday due to a family-related matter. Her 35-year-old son, Brad Ramirez, was soon identified as the primary suspect in her murder.
Brad Ramirez was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 22, after being discharged from an area medical center on an unrelated matter, police said.
