Campbell Man Arrested for Allegedly Firing into Occupied Residence

“On February 2, at approximately 4:53 AM, Campbell Police Department officers responded to a report of a disturbance and a gunshot heard in the 200 block of Union Avenue. Upon arrival, officers determined that a firearm had been discharged into an occupied residence. Fortunately, no one was struck, and there were no reported injuries.
Despite multiple attempts, officers were unable to establish contact with the suspect, 33-year-old Jose Hurtado of Campbell. Out of an abundance of caution, surrounding residences were evacuated. Given the presence of a firearm, the Campbell Police Department activated its SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT). The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office provided support by managing traffic control along Union Avenue between Michael Drive and Apricot Avenue.
At approximately 10:15 AM Hurtado exited his residence and was taken into custody without further incident. Officers recovered an unregistered semi-automatic handgun at the scene.
Hurtado, a convicted felon with prior offenses including grand theft, criminal threats, and negligent discharge of a firearm, was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for felon in possession of a firearm, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and possessing a firearm not registered to him.”
