Morro Bay Police Arrest Suspect in Stolen Vehicle Case

MORRO BAY, CA  —  “On January 19, 2024, at approximately 10:45 am, the Morro Bay Police Department received a stolen vehicle alert from the city’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system. The alert notified officers of a reported stolen vehicle that had entered the city limits. Officers responded to the area and began a search for the vehicle. The vehicle, a 2024 Ford F250 was located by officers in the 700 block of Harbor St. In the bed of the truck was a 2025 Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Officers contacted the driver, S/Thomas Hight, in the area and began the investigation into the stolen vehicle. During the investigation it was discovered that S/Hight had purchased the vehicle from a Perry Ford in San Luis Obispo.

The dealership reported the F250 truck stolen after payment for the truck came back with insufficient funds and after the dealership attempted to recover the vehicle from S/Hight. S/Hight returned to the dealership to purchase another vehicle when he was confronted by dealership staff and told to pay for the truck or relinquish the vehicle. S/Hight refused and later fled with the truck damaging the landscaping as an employee attempted to block S/Hight from leaving the dealership. S/Hight was arrested and booked into the SLO County Jail on vehicle theft. The San Luis Obispo and Fresno Police Departments were contacted and advised of the arrest and pending additional cases from the Ford and Harley dealerships.
