Redding Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing Puppy He Adopted The Day Prior

REDDING, CA — “On Wednesday, February 5th, 2025, at approximately 7:00 AM, Redding Police Officers responded to a reported disturbance at an apartment at Shasta Villa Apartments, located at 275 Hilltop Drive. It was reported that the resident there, who was later identified as Dylan Nielsen (30 years of Redding), had posted a video on social media of himself kicking what was described as a “lifeless” puppy.
Upon arrival at the location, officers were able to negotiate for Nielsen to exit his apartment and then detained him safely. Officers entered Nielsen’s apartment to check the welfare of his dog. Officers found a deceased Golden Retriever puppy on the kitchen floor that was beyond saving. Officers learned that Nielsen had just adopted the dog yesterday.
Nielsen appeared to be suffering severe detox hallucinations as a result of alcohol withdrawal. Officers determined that Nielsen believed his dog to be a mythical creature and killed it after it bit his ankle. Nielsen was arrested and transported to the Shasta County Jail, where he was booked for animal cruelty.”
