MOORPARK, CA — A 21-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested Thursday after leading Moorpark deputies on a
pursuit in a stolen vehicle before fleeing on foot.
Jah Tamir Craigs, of Los Angeles, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, felony evading and possession of a firearm.
On January 26, the theft of a key fob from a vehicle in Moorpark was reported by its owner. The victim’s car disappeared four days later.
the vehicle was later recovered.
Law enforcement spotted Craigs’ vehicle on January 30 and attempted to stop the driver, who fled, initiating a pursuit.”
During the ensuing chase, the suspect collided with two unrelated vehicles before disappearing
from view. Deputies later found the suspect’s abandoned vehicle, but the driver “had fled on
foot” and was not immediately located.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department’s VCSD dogs and the Aviation Unit as an “extensive search” commenced.
That search led to the discovery of “a loaded, unregistered handgun” believed to have been
abandoned by the fleeing suspect. A short time later, “an alert resident” spotted a suspicious person lurking about in a residential
neighborhood.
Deputies promptly responded and made contact with 21-year-old Los Angeles
resident Jah Tamir Craigs. It was quickly confirmed that Craigs was the suspect being sought,
and he was taken into custody and transported to Ventura County Main Jail where he was
charged with unlawful taking of a vehicle, identity theft, felony evading, felon in possession of a
firearm, possession of an extended firearm magazine, resisting a law enforcement officer, and hit
and run.
Craigs remains in custody on a no-bail hold.
