Shasta County Man Arrested for Alleged Manufacture of Destructive Device, Possession of Live Grenade

PALO CEDRO, CA — A man was arrested after a live grenade, ammo, narcotics, and other items were discovered during a probation compliance check, according to authorities.
According to a press release by the sheriff’s office, authorities conducted a probation compliance check on the 21000 block of Berkeley Drive in Palo Cedro.
At the home, authorities reportedly found live ammo, liquid and powder chemicals, a live grenade, a CO2 canister with a fuse attached to it, and suspected methamphetamine.
The Shasta County Bomb Team responded to the scene to collect the grenade, canister, and chemicals for proper disposal, the sheriff’s office said.
At the residence, authorities arrested Barton Wise, 69. Wise was previously convicted of a felony in Santa Clara County and is on post-release community supervision (PRCS), according to the sheriff’s office.
Wise was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing a destructive device, being a felon in possession of ammunition, possession of methamphetamine, obstruction, and violation of PRCS.
