BERKELEY, CA — Two men face charges involving the theft of a delivery van and deadly knife
fight that followed. The two male suspects survived stabbing injuries, but a woman died at a
hospital as a result of her injuries.
The incident began unfolding during the afternoon of January 18. Raymond Johnson, 32, of
Downey, was delivering packages in Oakland when his van was stolen. Johnson had a
tracking device installed inside the van an called police as he set off on a bicycle to
recover his stolen van in Berkeley.
Johnson found his van outside a residence in the San Pablo Park neighborhood. He
reportedly saw a man and woman unloading packages from his van, near the intersection of
Russell and Acton streets. Johnson confronted the two would-be thieves, which escalated quickly to a knife fight.
Johnson allegedly stabbed Jalen M. Carr-Harris, a 29-year-old man, who allegedly
stole the van. Carr-Harris, responded by reportedly stabbing Johnson. An unidentified person joined the fight, and she allegedly
stabbed Johnson. Next, Johnson allegedly stabbed an unidentified woman multiple times, resulting in her
death.
Carr-Harris was arrested the following day after release from the hospital. He had
outstanding arrest warrants for other crimes, prior to the theft of the van. Carr-Harrison
remains in custody at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail in lieu of $255,000 bond.
Carr-Harris faces charges involving identity theft of ten victims, burglaries, robberies,
receiving a stolen vehicle, among other offenses. Moreover, he has prior convictions for
stalking, second-degree robbery, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Upon release from the hospital, Johnson faces multiple felony charges already filed against
him. His charges include murder, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon.
