VISALIA, CA — “Around 3:00 p.m., Visalia PD officers responded to a report of animal abuse in the 300 block of NE 2nd Street. When officers arrived on scene, they were shown a video of 29-year-old Gerardo Angel Guzman beating his dog with a wooden weapon.
When officers attempted to contact Guzman, he barricaded himself inside his home and made threats toward them. Guzman exited the residence to assault officers but was subdued and taken into custody with the use of less lethal force.
Guzman was taken to Kaweah Health for medical clearance and will be booked at the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Facility on multiple charges, including:
• 69 PC – Resisting, delaying, or obstructing an officer by force or threat of force.
• 597 PC – Animal cruelty
• 241(c) PC – Battery on a peace officer
• 243(b) PC – Battery on a peace officer (additional charge)
• 148 PC – Resisting or obstructing an officer
Animal Control took custody of the dog, which had minor injuries.”
