Man Arrested for Allegedly Trying to Steal a Compressor from Piedmont Ace Hardware

PIEDMONT, CA — A man arrested for reportedly trying to steal a compressor has prior convictions
and arrests involving thefts. Darryl S. Dobrinski, Jr., 25, of Oakland, was booked at Alameda
County Santa Rita Jail.
His latest contact with law enforcement occurred on February 2 shortly after 1 p.m. Piedmont
police received multiple reports concerning an attempted theft from Ace Hardware, 1221
Grand Avenue.
Responding officers detained Dobrinski and reviewed video recorded by store security
cameras. The video shows Dobrinski taking a compressor and using his elbow to shove an
employee. Piedmont police arrested him on suspicion of battery and petty theft. Dobrinski who
is no longer in custody, was also arrested in January for receiving a stolen vehicle, robbery,
and petty theft.
Multiple charges were filed against him on February 5, including battery and petty
theft. He was convicted in April 2024 for unlawful driving or taking a vehicle. In December
2023, Dobrinski was convicted of petty theft. He was on probation at the time of his most
recent arrest, and he faces a felony charge for probation violation.
Dobrinksi has been arrested seven times since 2023. He has additional prior arrests on his
record for carjacking and receiving a stolen vehicle. He also has previous arrests for robbery,
grand theft, petty theft, shoplifting, and possession of burglary tools.
