Santa Cruz, CA — The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has reported several recent arrests for driving under the influence (DUI). On February 10th, at approximately 7:30 a.m., CHP officers responded to a two-vehicle collision on Soquel Avenue near 17th Avenue. The collision resulted in minor injuries. Following an investigation, a 21-year-old Santa Cruz resident was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, specifically driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and causing bodily injury.
In a separate incident, a driver was arrested for DUI after a report from a community member. The reporting party contacted 911 after observing a vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 1 with two flat tires. CHP officers located the vehicle and, after an investigation, arrested the driver for suspected impairment. The CHP acknowledged the community member’s call, noting that it potentially prevented a more serious incident. The CHP continues to emphasize the importance of reporting suspected impaired drivers.
