FILLMORE , CA — A 44-year-old Fillmore man was arrested on the afternoon of February 7, 2025 for allegedly assaulting and robbing another a 52-year-old male victim in a neighborhood supermarket parking lot.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Jarrod Foote, it was just after the noon hour when the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Fillmore patrol station received a 911 Emergency report of “a physical altercation” in in a downtown shopping center parking lot. Fillmore patrol deputies and detectives promptly responded to the scene, whereupon witnesses reported seeing “two men involved in a fight” before one fled the scene.
The immediately ensuing investigation confirmed an assault had taken place. As a search of the surrounding area progressed, a community member flagged down deputies to report the sighting of a man hiding behind a parked vehicle nearby. Deputies made contact with and detained the suspect, identified as Gabriel Casa, 44, of Fillmore. Investigators determined Casa had not only assaulted the victim but had also stolen his bicycle. A probable cause search of Casa’s belongings uncovered additional evidence linking him to the robbery and assault.
Casa was arrested and booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility, where he was charged with robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, providing false information to a peace officer, and misdemeanor drug offenses.
