CALISTOGA, CA — Authorities in Calistoga are warning residents about a kidnapping scam that targeted a local parent on February 11, 2025. The scam involved a phone call from an unknown individual claiming to have kidnapped the parent’s daughter. During the call, the suspect played a recording of a young girl’s voice in the background in an attempt to convince the parent that their child was in danger.
The parent quickly contacted the Calistoga Unified School District and was able to confirm that their daughter was safe in her classroom. No actual abduction had taken place.
The Calistoga Police Department is advising the community to remain cautious and aware of these types of scams, which are designed to manipulate victims into making financial transactions under false pretenses. Officials urge anyone who receives a similar call to avoid engaging with the caller and to report the incident to local law enforcement immediately.
