Driver Arrested for Street Racing and Felony Evading in Imperial County

CALEXICO, CA  —  “A 20-year-old driver was caught street racing at over 80 MPH, with no headlights, while running stop signs on the 300 block of West Cole Blvd. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop, leading to a brief pursuit before finally stopping.

Jesus Gongora-Rosas was arrested and booked into the Imperial County Jail for felony evading, among other violations. His vehicle was towed.

This incident highlights the serious dangers of illegal street racing, particularly among young drivers. Excessive speeding and reckless behavior—such as driving without headlights—greatly increase the risk of crashes, endangering not only the driver but also other motorists, pedestrians, and families.

The CPOA reminds all drivers to obey traffic laws, wear seatbelts, and drive responsibly to keep our roads safe.”
