CHATSWORTH, CA — An individual has been arrested for allegedly starting a brush fire in Chatsworth.
According to a press release by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a brush fire broke out on the afternoon of Monday, Feb. 3, on the 24000 block of Woolsey Canyon Road in Chatsworth. Deputies responded to the scene and found a group of witnesses detaining a suspect, who was lying in a prone position on the ground.
According to witnesses, the suspect ignited a brush fire near Knapp Ranch Road and Woolsey Canyon Road and then left the area. The witnesses followed the suspect in their vehicle. The suspect reportedly surrendered and placed himself in a prone position.
The fire burned approximately 100 square feet of brush before being extinguished by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, according to authorities.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of arson. His court date is scheduled for February 5. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson/Explosive Unit is conducting the investigation.
