SAN LEANDRO, CA — An unemployed man with dozens of prior arrests has been arrested yet again.
San Leandro detectives investigating an armed robbery caught the suspect driving a stolen
vehicle in Oakland. Deamous R. McKinley, 51 of Oakland, was arrested on February 19 at
4:46 p.m., two and half hours after the robbery happened. SLPD officers responded to a Quik Stop gas station and convenience store on MacArthur
Boulevard in San Leandro, at approximately 2:15 p.m.
Officers learned McKinley brandished a handgun at the store clerk and demanded money. The
clerk complied and gave the suspect money from the cash register.
Detectives reviewed video recorded by surveillance cameras and determined the getaway vehicle was stolen.
While an Oakland Police Department helicopter was monitoring from overhead, McKinley was
apprehended. SLPD placed him under arrest near Foothill Boulevard and 23rd Avenue in
Oakland.
A handgun and cash, that he allegedly stolen, were recovered. McKinley was
booked for violation of probation, robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, and felon in
possession of a firearm.
McKinley is being held in custody at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail, pending further
proceedings. Since April 2014, McKinley has been arrested 46 times. Most of his prior arrests
involved stolen vehicles and possession of illicit drugs.
