High School Employee Arrested, Accused of Sexually Assaulting Student

MERCED, CA — An employee of a high school in Merced has been arrested for the alleged statutory rape of an underage student, according to police.
In a press release, the Merced Police Department announced that they had opened an investigation into an allegation of possible sexual assault at El Capitan High School between a staff member and a student.
The investigation began on Tuesday, Feb. 18, following a report from the Merced Unified High School District, police said.
Investigators reportedly identified the suspect as John Mobley III, 34, who had been employed as an intervention coordinator at El Capitan High School since August of 2024.
Mobley has since been arrested and booked at the Merced County jail on suspicion of statutory rape.
The investigation is still active, according to police.
