Police Pursuit Leads to Stolen Fire Hydrant

PORT HUENEME , CA  —  A 33-year-old Oxnard man was arrested on the morning of February 15 after leading police on
a brief vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash, injuring innocent bystanders.

Juan Contreras, of Oxnard, led police on brief chase in a black Cadillac Escalade, after officer attempted a vehicle stop. The Escalade collided with a vehicle at the busy thoroughfare intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Ventura Road and continued on before stopping in a commercial district.

The driver, Contreras attempted to flee. but was apprehended after officers deployed a taser. Two
passengers, a male and a female, fled the scene and were not located.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a stolen fire hydrant. Police have not determined
whether Contreras was responsible for the theft.

Contreras was arrested at the scene and transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked
on charges of felony evading, felony hit and run, possession of stolen property, and an
outstanding no-bail felony warrant for probation violation related to auto theft.
