WALNUT CREEK, CA — A felon with multiple prior convictions was arrested February 18 on suspicion
of attempted murder.
Melvin J. Kibbee,43, of Walnut Creek, is being housed at the Martinez Detention Facility in lieu $600,000 bond.
Walnut Creek police responded reported gunfire on the 100 block of Sierra Drive around 7:18 p.m. No one was reported to be injured, and the suspect fled from the scene before officers arrived there. The suspect and victim reportedly know each other. Officers and detectives confirmed the identity of Kibbee as the suspect.
A Ramey Warrant was obtained for his arrest. Kibbee was placed under arrest several hours later on February 19 at 2:41
a.m. He was taken into custody by Walnut Creek police with the assistance of other law enforcement agencies.
Kibbee was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, addict in possession of a firearm and
possession of ammunition by a prohibited person. In 2022, Kibbee was convicted of driving or taking a
vehicle without an owner’s consent. He was convicted for felon in possession of a firearm and
ammunition in 2019 and convicted for attempted murder in 2004.
